Enjoy a week’s yoga, relaxation and activities in the untamed natural beauty and pristine environment of Montenegro’s Lake Skadar National Park. Based at beautiful Villa Miela, a renovated stone villa close to the lake, you can recharge and relax as you participate in daily hatha or vinyasa yoga flow sessions.
Workshops take place on the villa’s hillside terrace and at other spots around the lake, such as hidden freshwater beaches and panoramic viewpoints. In addition to yoga, guests can choose to go out on other guided excursions such as hiking, wild swimming and kayaking; or simply relax at the villa. A British retreat chef has been booked for the week to provide a hearty brunch and early evening meals served with the best vegetarian, local ingredients.
The purity of Lake Skadar makes it the ideal base for a yoga activity holiday retreat, offering clean air, fresh water and rich wildlife, set in some of the most spectacular scenery Montenegro has to offer.
Requires a spirit of adventure and reasonable level of fitness to complete tours such as hiking, kayaking or canyoning, usually taking 4-5 hours including breaks. You will need to be able to hold a paddle and walk uphill for 30 minutes without a break (on kayaking day trips, adults can paddle for younger children, but this is not recommended on the week-long kayaking holidays!). Activities may take place in challenging conditions such as hot sunshine.
For Families – moderate trips can have challenging elements depending on the children’s experience of the outdoors and level of fitness. Consider the amount of physical activity expected and how long they will need to participate. There will be less downtime than resort-style holidays. All our multi-centre trips are moderate due to the travel time between locations.
7 nights’ accommodation, morning yoga workshops, 7 vegetarian dinners & brunches, all guided activities and non-alcoholic drinks
Arrival at Lake Skadar. Check-in to Villa Miela or the neighbouring Dembelije Village House. Welcome & group dinner on Villa Miela’s terrace.
Today is a chance to settle into your beautiful surroundings, starting with a full yoga practice on the deck. The rest of the day is free to relax and enjoy the villa facilities – a dip in the saltwater pool, reading on the sun-loungers, a gentle stroll down the mountain road – before gentle evening practice and dinner.
After this morning’s yoga and brunch, you’ll head to the southern shores of the lake for a gentle trip by kayak to visit the nuns of the 14th-century Beška Island monastery. Paddle and swim in crystal clear waters, all the while taking in the spectacular views, water birds including pelican and glorious solitude.
This morning’s workshop will prepare us to walk with intent along a short woodland trail to reach hidden waterfalls. Take the chance to plunge into the water of this idyllic spot for a memorable dip. Emerge energised and ready for a short but steep hike uphill to visit a family-run honey farm for a divine “zero mile” early dinner of organic, home-produced food and beverages.
Relax at the villa, join an optional trip to Kotor on the coast, or do your own thing. Kotor is a UNESCO-protected, Venetian-era stone town with charming architecture that’s set in a sunken river bed that resembles a great fjord. It’s surrounded by steep, karst mountains, with sublime views and plenty of sights to see, from historic churches to its fortress.
After breakfast, you’ll take a panoramic road to reach the spectacular wetlands and winding rivers of the northern part of the National Park, stopping to take plenty of photographs. Next up, a forest trail to follow for 50 minutes to reach an impressive large cave before dipping in natural pools close by. Dinner today is at a local restaurant in the historic town of Rijeka Crnojevića.
On this final day, enjoy an extended yoga and meditation session in the morning, followed by a boat cruise on the lake to see Lake Skadar’s water lily fields and bewitching scenery. Enjoy a final group dinner at Villa Miela.
